OMG -- :) they're bold! colorful! fun, easy to wash, zippity doo dah !
Ask me about these; I've got to photograph them and get them out into the world.
Some great colors and words! and lots of laffs.
Not the usual syrupy, gooey, too sweet stuff.
No way.
Babies need humor, sarcasm and wit to surround them -- as soon as they pop out of the womb. These are the qualities that make real men and women.
I've been a quilter for years, and baby quilts are really fun and easy and great to make.
Hand quilting makes these 'babies' unique and infused with love.
$500 to start. Mucho labor intensivo.
They'll last at least 12 yrs, per my niece, Laura.
I made a "warm bunny" quilt for her daughter / my great niece, Ada, circa 1998.
Warm Bunny's still going strong.
I can do custom quilts -- you give me the fabric, or some of it, and your color choices and let me handle the artistic freedom part of it and we're off and running. You'll have a great heirloom in about 6 weeks. It will be baby's favorite "blankey," no doubt.

Mom Agna B. (and dad, Peter) had baby Beatrix in 2009, New York City.
I surprised them with a quilt for Bea(utiful) trix.
"I love Bea's quilt. At first I wasn't sure I wanted her "using" it because it was so beautiful and I didn't want anything to happen to it. But I decided against it and put it down on the floor for her to use for "floor time" and thank god I did. It is the perfect size.
It’s a great alternative to the popular kids' theme playmats that are available.
I consider it a usable piece of art. And that it's one-of- a-kind makes it particularly special.
It really is Bea's Blanket and is part of the fabric, if you'll pardon the expression, of her babyhood.
Perhaps the best part is that it held up to machine washing. I wash it in cold water, in the gentle cycle and no bleeding of colors.
Once the baby starts to really move around and she doesn’t sit still for more than 30 seconds, I intend to use it as a wall covering.
One day I'll give it to Beatrix. I hope she uses it for her own kids. It's heirloom quality.
It would make a great baby gift. I'm not surprised that it costs more than other baby blankets on the market. It is apparent that a lot of work went into it and it certainly feels substantial."

Katy Belle's mom, Elizabeth, wrote:
"I adore the baby quilt Maureen made for my daughter, Katy Belle. It was commissioned by my sister and was the most thoughtful gift we received. It is rare in this day and age to receive a gift that is handmade and unique to your child.
Maureen used fabric that was selected by my husband’s and my families. The fabric reflected both of our interests as children and made the quilt so personal. Our daughter lays on it and plays on it and it is so easy to clean! I throw it on gentle cycle and then hang it over the shower to dry.
I love how much the quilt is a part of my child’s first year and I look forward to being able to talk about the quilt when she is older and know it will be in irreplaceable heirloom for generations."

My friend, Helen, wrote about my quilts. I made the "Katy Belle Quilt' for her first niece, KB, born in Brooklyn, Aug 2009.

"Maureen Kelleher's quilts are art your baby can spit up on. They are washer-friendly, and more importantly baby-friendly.
After seeing Ms. Kelleher's incredible woodwork collages, which sell in New York galleries for five figures, I commissioned her to make a far less expensive but equally stunning quilt collage for my niece.
I was raised with Alabama quilts the likes of Gee's Bend. Ms. Kelleher's quilts belong right beside them, hung in a museum or better yet, laid out across your nursery.
Thanks to Ms. Kelleher, art can be appreciated and accessed at the earliest age."
